Lead Producer (Primary)

This full-time editorial position involves leading the editorial team and managing the development and production of content for Espresso’s Primary school service. The post requires you to manage the creation of interactive video, multimedia activities and support materials for pupils and teachers.
This person will work closely with the multimedia team to ensure the production and standards of content, the use of most up-to-date technologies and be responsive to feedback from both internally and externally. The role involves keeping abreast of school curriculum policy development and working effectively with educationalists and other departments within the company.
Job overview
- Reporting to the Editorial Operations Manager, the Lead Producer line manages the Primary editorial team.
- Manages production of all non-video based weekly news content.
- Heads up weekly editorial meetings with the Head of Video.
- Chooses the stories and manages production of Teachers TV content.
- Provides excellent editorial judgement for the service.
- Works alongside Espresso’s multimedia team to ensure the production and maintenance of Espresso’s services.
- Visiting subscribing schools to measure the impact of the service and provide feedback.
Product development
- Works to the Editorial Operations Manager and works with the Production Co-ordinator in the origination, development and project management of the service’s content to an exact delivery schedule and budget, for the EOM to sign-off.
- Works collaboratively to the Head of Video Production to ensure appropriate planning and delivery of all video elements.
- Devises video scripts, multimedia activities and support materials for pupils and teachers.
- Manages the production of the weekly broadcast of new content, working with the team to select and produce stories, being involved in writing content and being responsible for final sign-off.
- Ensures that the news broadcasts workflow is efficiently managed, delivered on time and are educationally valid and of a high production quality.
- Ensures/ reviews the quality of any consultant’s contributions/ work.
- Writes newsletters and info to subscribing schools to let them know what has been broadcast and how it fits the curriculum.
- Incorporates third party video content into the Primary service from suppliers such as ITN, Channel 4 Learning and Teachers TV.
- Assists the Editorial Operations Manager & Head of Video production in producing the educational brief and rationale for Commissioned Content modules and supervising the scheduling and delivery of the modules.
- Liases with practising educationalists in local authorities, subject associations, government bodies etc with varying degrees of familiarity with interactive video and the web to bring about theirs and the audience’s expectations.
- Responds to feedback from the modules produced both internally and externally.
- Increases the discoverability of existing resources on the service.
- Given time and budgetary constraints, working to evolve constantly what can be achieved with software tools available.
Requirements
- A television broadcast, digital and/ or educational background with high levels of experience of editing content, particularly web-based content.
- Excellent & proven editorial judgement.
- Enthusiastic team player.
- Experience of creative and accurate writing, preferably in education.
- Ability to deal with constant changes, work well under pressure, troubleshoot effectively and is meticulous about detail.
- Awareness of changes and initiatives in primary education.
- An awareness of interactive media technologies and formats including Flash, audio/ video streaming and social media.
- Salary dependent upon experience.
- Based: Hammersmith.
Cross-company responsibilities:
- Liaising with all other Espresso Group departments, particularly INSET, as and when required to promote usage of the service.
- To enhance commercial offers.
- Attending educational marketing or policy, or CPD events to promote Espresso as reasonably required.
