Espresso and Clipbank put the ‘learning’ into Learning Platforms

30th October 2009

New 'embed code' video feature

New ‘embed code’ video feature added to both online curriculum services

Espresso Group is pleased to announce the introduction of an ‘embed code’ feature for both Espresso Primary and Channel 4 Learning Clipbank services. This feature enables subscribing teachers and pupils to display and play video easily and directly in the UK’s most popular learning platforms.  In addition to supporting schools in achieving best value from their learning platform investment, this service enhancement also further strengthens “anywhere, anytime access” by providing pupils and students with extended learning opportunities.

The ‘embed code’ feature is a simple and quick way for teachers to integrate video content and the ideal way to use videos outside the classroom. For learning platforms that support the insertion of ‘HTML code’ in its pages or text editors, Espresso video will be displayed with its well-known player in a frame, just as it is seen in the service itself. By pointing to a secure Espresso/Clipbank central server, the feature does not require any file storage allocation for LAs or schools.
Use video
Many teachers will already be familiar with similar functionality in websites like YouTube.  However, Espresso and Clipbank provide validated, high-quality educational video, which teachers can use with confidence.

Increasingly, schools and their local authorities have been looking for ‘learning platform-ready’ content to encourage greater and more frequent use of learning platforms in lesson delivery and activities for students. BESA research published in May 2009 reported that 46% of primary and 59% of secondary schools said ‘delivery of digital content via their learning platform is key to their strategy.’

Additionally, in Espresso and Clipbank, teachers will benefit from learning platform-specific support resources such as documents and videos explaining ‘how to embed video’ and, even more importantly, ‘why embed video?’  Creative ideas for using video in a learning platform are explored and can be the focus of an in-school training session.  Online support will be found in Espresso’s ‘Staffroom’ and Clipbank’s ‘Teachers Resources’ area, both teacher-only areas containing lesson plans, curriculum support and professional development resources.

The introduction of ‘embed code’ is the first initiative in Espresso’s focus this year on ‘accessibility of content’ by both teachers and students, in school and at home.
